Leveret Reserve Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2019

$29.99$170.94 inc GST

The Leveret brand is a descendant of the award-winning Coniglio range. The word “leveret” means young hare, three of which can be found dancing on the bottle’s label. The ears of the hares connect creating a triangular symbol that was used by the tin merchants of Devon, traders on the Silk Road.
With it’s own sense of history, and coming from an up-standing family we’re excited to present a premium and reserve option for the Leveret brand.

A floral nose of iris and lavender with fresh, juicy red summer berries and well-integrated oak, giving aromas of vanilla and smoke. A well-balanced palate with black Doris plum and fig. Tannins are spicy giving great length and structure.

Wine Review

"Aromas of dark berries and peppery spices then scents of dark black currant and blueberries. Sweet toasty wood then barrel spices of vanilla and some clove add complexity and depth. Fleshy, fresh, salivating and dry. Tannins are abundant with a fine texture accentuated by acidity and spice qualities. Ripe, fruity, varietal and youthful. Well made with decent ageing potential. Best drinking from 2022 through 2028+."

Vineyards and Winemaking

The grapes were harvested from the Tantallon vineyard and transported to our Riverview winery where they were crushed to open topped stainless steel fermentation vessels and inoculated with a range of yeast strains. The ferments were pumped over several times per day until dry and then allowed from 2 to 5 days extended maceration. The wine was then pressed off the skins and put to barrel where it was aged for 18 months. The wine was then transported by road tanker to our Katikati winery for final blending and finishing. Bottling was in October 2021.

This wine is drinking well now but can be cellared for up to 10 years.

Composition: 99.8% Syrah, 0.2% Malbec
