Tasting Notes

This superior wine is a classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot crafted from ultra-premium grapes grown on our Mere Road vineyard in the famed Gimblett Gravels. Medium to full bodied, it bursts with notes of black fruits, plum, chocolate, and liquorice intertwined with beautifully refined tannins, yielding a distinguished silky smooth wine.

Wine Review

A blend of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, and 4% Cabernet Franc from low yielding vines in the Gimblett Gravels. The grapes were handpicked and fermented in separate parcels. Aged for 17 months in French hogsheads, of which 37% was new.
I suggest you take the time to decant this wine to enjoy it at its best, leave for an hour or so and you will be rewarded. Aromas of ripe berries, plum, oak spices, tertiary aromas of cigar box and forest floor with hints of chocolate and smoke. It’s so good that saying it’s delicious doesn’t do it justice. The aromas continue onto the palate and are lightened by a touch of acidity and joined by dusty tannins. This wine has a moreish finish that makes you want to take another sip. Delicious!

The Wine Writer

"Grown and hand-picked at the company’s close-planted Mere Road site, this is a consistently impressive red. The 2016 vintage (4.5*) was matured for 17 months in French oak hogsheads (37 per cent new). It is a youthful, full-coloured, medium to full-bodied red. Fresh and vibrant, it is sweet-fruited, with concentrated blackcurrant, plum and slight nut flavours, oak complexity and refined tannins. Best drinking 2021+."

Michael Cooper

Big, quite oaky red in an elegant rather than blockbuster style with blackcurrant, cassis, plum, aniseed, spice and nutty oak flavours. A structured but accessible wine with a reasonably silken texture.
Drink 2019 to 2024"
