Falconhead Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2023

$16.99$96.84 inc GST

The New Zealand falcon has been a revered guardian of our vineyards for decades. At our Riverview Vineyard on the banks of the Ngaruroro River in Hawke’s Bay, we housed and trained a male and female falcon whose seemingly effortless grace held us rapt for many years.

The only remaining bird of prey endemic to New Zealand helps us with our natural sustainability program by managing pest control operations. To this day we still have a resident falcon who often visits the feeding station we’ve set up as a token of appreciation to this flying celebrity who also graces our country’s $20 bill. It’s worth noting that just one of these bills will get you a nice bottle of Falconhead to take home…

Ripe scented tropical fruit and herbal aromatics lead into a salivating saline palate, with lively acid surrounding a core of fresh citrus fruit flavours.

Wine Review

Pungent and fruity bouquet with a core of varietal flavours from grapefruit to passionfruit, fresh basil to apple and a wet stone mineral quality. Persistent, fresh, just dry and well made with a backbone of acidity and core flavours ensure consistency and length. A well made wine with best drinking from 2023 through 2016.

Cam Douglas MS

Tangy, punchy sauvignon blanc with lemongrass, passionfruit, red capsicum and guava flavours supported by vibrant acidity that is balanced by a hint of sweetness.
88 Points.

Vineyards and Winemaking

The grapes for this wine were harvested in our Kuranui vineyard and transported to a contract facility for dejuicing, settling and fermentation in stainless tanks using Zymaflore X5 yeast strain. Following fermentation, the wine was transported to our Katikati winery where it was blended, protein stabilized, cold stabilized, fined and bottled in November 2023
