Falconhead Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2024

$16.99$96.84 inc GST

The New Zealand falcon has been a revered guardian of our vineyards for decades. At our Riverview Vineyard on the banks of the Ngaruroro River in the Hawke’s Bay, we housed and trained a male and female falcon whose seemingly effortless grace held us rapt for many years.

Ripe scented tropical fruit and herbal aromatics lead into a salivating saline palate, with lively acid surrounding a core of fresh citrus fruit flavours.

This wine is drinking well now but can be cellared for up to 2 years.

Description

The New Zealand falcon has been a revered guardian of our vineyards for decades. At our Riverview Vineyard on the banks of the Ngaruroro River in the Hawke’s Bay, we housed and trained a male and female falcon whose seemingly effortless grace held us rapt for many years.

The only remaining bird of prey endemic to New Zealand helps us with our natural sustainability program by managing pest control operations. To this day we still have a resident falcon who often visits the feeding station we’ve set up as a token of appreciation to this flying celebrity who also graces our country’s $20 bill. It’s worth noting that just one of these bills will get you a nice bottle of Falconhead to take home…

Wine Review

Totally classic expression with the vibrato of cool climate Marlborough, backbone of acidity and core fruit flavours of apple and citrus, tropical fruit tea and a fine basil-sage herbaceous imprint. Dry with a fine layer of fruit spice, crisp and dry, fruity and varietal. Best drinking from day of purchase through end of summer 2026+

Vineyards and Winemaking

The grapes for this wine were harvested in our Kuranui vineyard and transported to a contract facility for dejuicing and settling before transporting to our Katikati winery for fermentation in stainless tanks using specifically selected yeast strains. Following fermentation, the wine was blended, protein stabilized, cold stabilized, fined and bottled in November 2023.
