Leveret Estate Hawke’s Bay Merlot Cabernet 2018

$22.99$131.04

The Leveret brand is a descendant of the award-winning Coniglio range. The word “leveret” means young hare, three of which can be found dancing on the bottle’s label. The ears of the hares connect creating a triangular symbol that was used by the tin merchants of Devon, traders on the Silk Road.

With it’s own sense of history, and coming from an up-standing family, we’re excited to present a premium and reserve option for the Leveret brand.

Clear

A deep red colour. The aroma is very vibrant with ripe berry, plum and spice with a subtle dried herb lift. The palate shows fine grained tannins that provide structure and length to the fruit flavours and a lovely savoury complexity. This wine is drinking well now but will reward cellaring for up to eight years.

Wine Review

“Offering good value, this is a sturdy, full-coloured red with strong, ripe berry, plum and spice flavours, savoury notes adding complexity and finely balanced tannins. Already drinking well, it’s also well worth cellaring.”

Vineyards and Winemaking

This wine is from grapes grown in two of our Hawke’s Bay vineyards - Tantallon and Campbell’s Brook.

The grapes were harvested from the vineyards and transported to our Riverview winery were they were crushed to open topped stainless steel fermentation vessels and inoculated with a range of yeast strains. The ferments were hand plunged several times per day until dry and then allowed from 2 to 14 days extended maceration. The wine was then pressed off the skins and put to barrel where it was aged for 18 months before blending. The wine was then transported by road tanker to our Katikati winery for final blending and finishing. Bottling was in July 2020.
