Leveret Reserve Marlborough Barrel-Aged Sauvignon Blanc 2017

$29.99$170.94

The Leveret brand is a descendant of the award-winning Coniglio range. The word “leveret” means young hare, three of which can be found dancing on the bottle’s label. The ears of the hares connect creating a triangular symbol that was used by the tin merchants of Devon, traders on the Silk Road.

With it’s own sense of history, and coming from an up-standing family, we’re excited to present a premium and reserve option for the Leveret brand.

Clear

This wine shows aromas of rock melon, orange, guava and nashi pineapple. The oak is subtly present on the nose as a hint of smokiness but is more apparent in the structure – on the palate it is fuller bodied than most Sauvignon Blancs. The wine finishes dry and has a good length with blackcurrant flavours. This wine is drinking well now but the barrel aging will enable it to evolve in the bottle and it will cellar.

Wine Review

“How is it that a sauvignon blanc can be fresh, frisky and citrusy, but also buxom and bodacious at the same time? When it’s the Leveret Reserve style, that’s how. Displaying all that juicy passionfruit, pineapple and lime loveliness we expect in Marlborough sauvignon, yet somehow morphing the herbaceousness into a soft, smoky spectrum of flavour – it’s a new favourite for sure.”

Food Pairings

Pairs well with smoked seafood and particularly salmon.

Vineyards and Winemaking

This wine is entirely from grapes grown in our Kuranui Vineyard in the Upper Awatere subregion.

Winemaking: The grapes for this wine were harvested and transported to a contract winery in Marlborough. Following settling the clear juice was chilled before being loaded into a road tanker for transfer to our Riverview winery in Hawkes Bay. A portion of the juice was fermented in barrel and the remainder in stainless steel. Following fermentation both portions were transferred to barrel for approximately six months maturation. The wine was then racked out of barrel and transferred to out Katikati winery for finishing and bottling. Minimal fining was used and the wine was bottled on 31st January 2018.
