Description

The Leveret brand is a descendant of the award-winning Coniglio range. The word “leveret” means young hare, three of which can be found dancing on the bottle’s label. The ears of the hares connect creating a triangular symbol that was used by the tin merchants of Devon, traders on the Silk Road.

With it’s own sense of history, and coming from an up-standing family, we’re excited to present a premium and reserve option for the Leveret brand.

Wine Review

Aromas and flavours of vanilla and roasted peaches, layers of raw nut and lees, barrel spices and baked apples fold into the palate as the wine opens out in glass. Also on the palate are textures from acidity and fine tannins adding to a light chalky mouthfeel. The acid line also frames the core fruit flavours of stone and tree fruits with a light flourish of citrus peel on the finish. If you are partial to Chardonnay with that nutty, creamy textured quality - look no further. Balanced, well made and ready to drink from 2024 through 2029.

Vineyards and Winemaking

This wine is from 100% Chardonnay grapes grown in our Riverview vineyard in Hawkes Bay.
The grapes for this wine were harvested and transported to our Riverview winery. The fruit was pressed into stainless steel tanks and after a short settling period the juice was run off to barrel for fermentation. Some of barrels were allowed to undergo wild fermentation. Following fermentation, the wine was inoculated for Malolactic fermentation. After approximately a year in a variety of oak barrels, the wine was then transferred to our Katikati winery for finishing. The wine was bottled in July 2023.
This wine is drinking well now but will cellar for up to seven years plus.
