Pick Up Some Pink for New Zealand Rosé Day, Waitangi Day & Valentine’s Day

These days a summer picnic or BBQ is not complete without some pink. Rosé is currently the fastest-growing varietal in New Zealand, and we wanted to introduce you to four of our own in time for the long weekend and Rosé Day, on Sunday, February 5.

Our rosés are on the dryer side, with the majority of the grapes coming from our Hawke’s Bay vineyards. Let us introduce you:

Mills Reef Reserve Hawke’s Bay Rosé 2021
This fresh and vibrant rosé is crafted in a dry style with aromas of cherry blossom. It exudes strawberry and raspberry flavours, complemented with subtle rock melon and red current notes. The palate is textural and full-bodied, yet delicate.

Valentine’s Day

What Kind of Chocolate Pairs With Rosé?
Valentine’s Day is on February 14 and rosé, with its beautiful, blush colouring is a lovely addition to any surprises you may have up your sleeve. Now, if you’re going traditional and pairing a bottle with flowers and chocolate, we have a tip for you. You have to consider the sugar levels in chocolate when pairing it with wine. Dark chocolate is an ideal match for rosé as it helps to lift the berry notes and softens the acidity and tannins. With our sparkling, make it a dark raspberry bar.

Something special
For Valentine’s Day whether you’re planning an elaborate dinner or a BBQ on the beach, we can help you pick the perfect wine to go with it. Top it off with some chocolates and a glass of bubbles or savour a special bottle of our Mills Reef Elspeth One Gimblett Gravels 2020 and you’re guaranteed to have a lovely night.

Stop by and chat with our friendly staff at The Cellar Door in Katikati, we’re open daily from 9:30am – 5:00pm.
