Leveret Reserve Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2018

$24.99$142.45 inc GST

The Leveret brand is a descendant of the award-winning Coniglio range. The word “leveret” means young hare, three of which can be found dancing on the bottle’s label. The ears of the hares connect creating a triangular symbol that was used by the tin merchants of Devon, traders on the Silk Road.

With it’s own sense of history, and coming from an up-standing family, we’re excited to present a premium and reserve option for the Leveret brand.

An elegant and powerful single vineyard Chardonnay that oozes class. Toasted almonds, grilled peaches and a subtle flinty reduction. Sourced from the Riverview vineyard on the banks of the Ngaruroro river this site has imparted purity and a flinty texture from the stony soils. A long saline finish, full of pineapple and ripe melon, with beautifully integrated oak. Delicious.

Wine Review

A vivacious example coming from the Riverview vineyard in Hawke’s Bay. Fresh, with a citrus peel, peach and honeysuckle bouquet, and a distinctive top note of smoky, Riesling-like kerosene. Medium-bodied with more lemon, rockmelon and stony mineral on the palate. A busy rush of acidity, a nice touch of oak, and a creamy finish. Judges noted “great acid and great potential”

Top 10 in the Winefolio Chardonnay Tasting 2020

Bold and expressive bouquet with aromas of roasted nut and baked peach, vanilla and whipped cream, fresh and baked apple, toasty barrel spices and scents of new barrel. On the palate - full bodied, toasty, nutty, creamy and rich in flavours of oak and vanilla, peaches, apples and grapefruit peel. There’s plenty of acidity and fine tannin textures to frame the theme and core of wine very nicely. Well made and ready to drink from day of purchase and through 2024+.

Superb with chicken and pasta dishes.

Vineyards and Winemaking

The grapes for this wine were grown in our Riverview vineyard in the Hawke’s Bay.

The fruit was pressed into stainless steel tanks and after a short settling period the juice was run off to barrel for fermentation. Most of the barrels were allowed to undergo wild fermentation. Following fermentation the wine was inoculated for Malolactic fermentation. After approximately a year, in a variety of oak barrels, the wine was transferred to our Katikati winery for finishing. The wine was bottled in March 2020.
