Leveret Estate Hawke’s Bay Merlot Cabernet 2019

$21.99$125.34 inc GST

The Leveret brand is a descendant of the award-winning Coniglio range. The word “leveret” means young hare, three of which can be found dancing on the bottle’s label. The ears of the hares connect creating a triangular symbol that was used by the tin merchants of Devon, traders on the Silk Road.

With it’s own sense of history, and coming from an up-standing family, we’re excited to present a premium and reserve option for the Leveret brand.

A classic example of Hawke’s Bay Merlot Cabernet with an expressive aroma that is vibrant with notes of spiced plum, ripe berry, cedar, and subtle dried herb lift. The palate is well structured with fine grained tannins, mouth-filling voluptuous dark fruits, and spice.

Vineyards and Winemaking

This wine is entirely from grapes grown in our Tantallon Vineyard in the Hawke’s Bay.

The grapes were harvested from the Tantallon vineyard and transported to our Riverview winery where they were crushed to open topped stainless steel fermentation vessels and inoculated using predominantly the Uvaferm BDX yeast strain. The ferments were hand plunged several times per day until dry and then allowed from 2 to 14 days extended maceration. The wine was then pressed off the skins and put to barrel where it was aged for 18 months before blending. The wine was then transported by road tanker to our Katikati winery for final blending and finishing. Bottling was in September 2021.
