Leveret Reserve Hawke’s Bay Merlot Cabernet 2021

$29.99$170.94 inc GST

The Leveret brand is a descendant of the award-winning Coniglio range. The word “leveret” means young hare, three of which can be found dancing on the bottle’s label. The ears of the hares connect creating a triangular symbol that was used by the tin merchants of Devon, traders on the Silk Road.

With it’s own sense of history, and coming from an up-standing family, we’re excited to present a premium and reserve option for the Leveret brand.

Aromas of blackberries, dark cherries, and plump plum, complimented by delicate hints of blackcurrant and toasted oak. The palate is full bodied with luscious dark fruit flavours and silky-smooth tannins creating an elegant finesse.

    Wine Review

Things I want: to be cosy at home but also socialise and travel. To buy everything I want but also save money and to get super fit, but also eat what I like and not exercise. That’s not too much to ask for, right? Things I also want: More of this dark, concentrated, robust red stitched that’s stitched together with softly chewy tannins and notes of cocoa, seasoned leather, graphite, and iodine. Soothing, smooth, cosy and characterful. Yep, I’m much more likely to be able to achieve this level of satisfaction. Add puttanesca pasta, and I’m settling.

Expressive, sweet fruit with developed spicy oak and coffee aromas lead to a creamy palate of mocha, plum and red berry. A generous, forward and easy-drinking style trimmed with neat, woody tannins around a core of mid-weight fruit
    2025–2032.

Moderately intense red with dominant merlot contributing plum, dark berry and a reasonably accessible structure while cabernet gives the wine a cedar and green olive character. Should age well
    2023–2030.

The grapes for this wine were harvested and transported to our Riverview winery. The fruit was gently crushed into open top fermenters and inoculated for fermentation. Caps management was by pumping over. Following fermentation and a short period of extended maceration, the wine was transferred to barrel for approximately 16 months maturation. The wine was then racked out of barrel and transferred to our Katikati winery for finishing and bottling in August 2023.
