Wine Review

Flavours of black currant and plum then classic Otago layers of dried herb and cherry. Textures of fine tannins and medium+ acidity set in place a decent structure for the core fruit flavours. Layers of natural fruit spices combine with taut youthful tannins and acidity to build complexity and length through the palate. A lovely wine with a judicious amount of oak layering in a nut and baking spice layer, persistent flavours and textures, a satin touch with contrasting fruit and tannin complexities. Well made with best drinking from 2025 through 2033+.

Vineyards and Winemaking

The grapes for this outstanding wine were grown in the Central Otago region, on low yielding vines. After a long hot summer and the vines in perfect health the grapes were picked at ideal ripeness and flavour profile.

The grapes were gently crushed and allowed to cold soak for 3 days to extract important colour and flavour components. Fermentation proceeded with light plunging for further colour, flavour and fine tannin extraction. After a 10 day post ferment skin contact regime, the resulting wine was then sent to barrel for twelve months ageing in quality French oak (35% new wood) to enhance its natural structure. The wine received a light egg white fining and was cross flow filtered prior to bottling on 12th October 2023 under screwcap closure.
