Wine Review

Cam Douglas- Varietal, intense, ripe, youthful and very inviting bouquet of dark plums and baked raspberry flesh, scents of clove and wood smoke, baked meats, red licorice and flat mushrooms frame the bouquet with precision and style. A dry wine touches the palate with contrasting red and blue fruit flavours from plums to raspberry and moments of jam and baking spices. Firm tannins and acidity frame the palate well with core flavours from the bouquet and a stony mineral quality. Complex and youthful, lengthy and well made. A food wine with many matching attributes. Best drinking from 2025 through 2035+

Cameron Doulas MS

Deep blood red. Closed at first, this blossomed over 30 minutes like a red rose. Pepper cherry and damson fruit lead to a wonderfully stoney and satisfying finish.

Vineyards and Winemaking

The grapes for this distinguished wine were grown exclusively in our highly the celebrated Gimblett Gravels district of Hawkes Bay. The 2020 growing season experienced ideal weather conditions, steady hot days and moderate-cool nights allowed for perfect ripening conditions for harvesting in excellent condition and flavour profile. Harvest took place on the 15th of April 2020.
The grapes were destemmed, retaining whole berries, which were cold soaked for 3 days prior to fermentation. Fermentation too place in several open top stainless-steel tanks. Each tank was left to start with a spontaneous fermentation before being inoculated with Syrah specific yeasts. Daily, the tanks were gently air rummaged to enhance colour, structure and tannin development. Post fermentation, the wines remained on skins for a 9 day alcohol soak to achieve a harmonious and well balanced complex wine, before being pressed off and transferred to barrel for 21 months aging in quality French hogsheads (33% new). This superior wine is unfined, and unfiltered, retaining its natural complexities and opulence, before bottling on 21 February 2022 under Stelvin screwcap.
